Accessibility Statement
Expunger is built for people reaching us from wherever they are — a phone at a public library, a shelter, or a courthouse hallway kiosk, not only a desktop with assistive technology already tuned to their needs. A screen that cannot be operated by keyboard or read by a screen reader turns away exactly the person this service exists for.
Our conformance target
We build to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Two separate legal standards point at that same bar for a legal-services website like ours: Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as applied to web content offered by a place of public accommodation, and California's Unruh Civil Rights Act (Cal. Civ. Code §51), which California courts have read to reach inaccessible websites independent of the ADA. We hold every screen to the same standard, including the screens our own staff use to do their work, not only the ones a Client or Prospect sees.
What we check, and how often
Every screen in the product — on both the website and the phone app — is checked against automated accessibility rules covering the WCAG 2.1 Level AA rule set: labels, roles, accessible names, form structure, and landmark structure. This runs as part of every change we ship, not on a separate schedule. A serious or critical violation blocks that change from shipping at all; it is not a warning someone can scroll past.
Known limitations
Automated checks catch a real and useful set of problems, but not everything a person actually experiences. Here is what our automated checks do not yet cover, and how we handle the gap:
- Screen-reader walkthroughs. Automated checks catch a missing label or the wrong role; they do not catch an accessible name that is technically present but confusing when read aloud, or a reading order that is technically linear but hard to follow. We rely on people running real screen readers for that, not on automation alone, and have not yet made that a systematic pass across every screen.
- Colour contrast. Our automated tooling has no rendered pixels to measure, so contrast is checked separately against our design system's own colour values, and should also be judged against a real device in bright light — a specified ratio and what a screen actually shows outdoors are not always the same question.
- Keyboard navigation end to end. We test specific keyboard-navigation behaviour where we have found a problem before, but we have not yet driven every screen, tab by tab, the way a person actually would.
- Zoom and text resize to 200%. Not yet covered by our automated checks.
None of this is a reason to assume every screen is perfect; it is an honest account of where our automated coverage ends, so a passing check is never mistaken for a full audit.
Ask us for help
If any part of this site or app is difficult for you to use because of a disability, tell us. Email hello@expunger.ai and describe what you were trying to do and what happened — the page or screen, and, if you can, the assistive technology you were using. We will work with you to get you what you need another way while we fix it.
